Will Bruder “built UNBUILT”

Last week we visited a discussion forum presented by Architect Will Bruder.  Since I am not a Architect I thought It would be interesting to learn about how Will and his design partners approach to design problems. Posted above are some of my visual observations. One of the partners made the comment “Knowing is all the difference.” he went on to elaborate on how important it is to have the skills necessary to communicate to a craftsman what you want to accomplish as well and understand  possible limitations.  Another comment was made about ideal clients are not the clients that give you “complete control” and walk away from a project. “Ideal” clients are ones that push you to do better work and challenge you to understand their vision.  The discussion was pretty good but I think lacked a bit of focus.

Overall I thought the presentation of work was interesting. I wish that they would of explained the thought process that went into thier work a bit more. Just showing static images wasn’t quite that dynamic of a presentation. I understand that the work should “speak for itself” but I’m sure I could of learn a lot more from a few detailed case studies, rather than a slightly vague slideshow.

It was interesting to see that architects have very similar problems to those of interactive designers addressing clients needs while still pushing creative limits. I was very inspired to her a more positive outlook on client challenges as opposed to restrictions.

During the course of the lecture I was able to skecth out most of my metaphor idea for my research methods class. Funny, while sitting there listening to everybody talk  ideals about my project seem to come very quickly and naturally.
